Finally out of customs and ready to ride in the EU. As not many individual travellers come through here, the insurance companies don’t maintain kiosks in Varna Ferry Port. While the border officials were kind and helpful, they insisted they could only release our motorcycles once we provided proof of insurance. It took a little longer than expected to find a company to issue policies to us in Varna, but we worked it out eventually, including getting through to the customs officer for the final stamps on our forms before we once again get on our way.
Paul decided we should cross via the free at Nikopol – great choice: very little traffic once we’d left the main highway, great scenery and no wait at the border. Getting on and off the ferry proved a little tricky with we sidecar, as the ramps were set to car width… In Rumania, we continued to make swift progress and were happy with our choice of Hotel Bavaria, deciding to pick up pizza nearby, impressed by the beautiful houses and gardens along the way.

Crossing the Danube to Romania.

Beautiful houses and gardens from before Communism.
